Role of Umpire


A bat and ball game entertain the whole world ,but can you guess who are the important players without bat and ball ?they are the decision makers of the game called umpires they are also called informers they are the keen watchers of the game. Umpires are different type of players in the field. They are three in numbers.

Umpire plays a crucial role in cricket .The word umpire is derived from the French ‘nompere ‘  which means not equal or in simple word its mean not a member of team. He is the precision who has authority of taking decision in the field. According to international law of cricket umpire not only conduct the manners in the game and taking decision about delivery laws, wicket appeals but also announces deliveries and completion of an over.



To preside over the match two infield umpires are there. The umpires are in different positions .There is one umpire who stand just behind the bowlers wicket .he is the most important umpire he decide and act as a judiciary or judge. There is another umpire standing in the side vie of batsman he is called square leg umpire .He help the main umpire in decision. If still there is any confusion in the decision or if they are not able to decide anything there is an option of third umpire .Third umpire is a technology by which they can take correct decision by replaying the difficulties.

Not only during the match but umpire plays an important role before the match also which we called pre match role before the coin toss umpires establish the hours of play .umpires decide which ball s will be used during the match .The umpires also inspect the wicket, boundary lines, crease marking and all the other rules and regulations .They also check the equipment’s of the players. Thus we can say that not only players but umpires also play an eminent role in cricket
