Umpires are different type of players in the field. They are three in numbers.

Umpire plays a crucial role in cricket .The word umpire is derived from the French ‘nompere ‘  which means not equal or in simple word its mean not a member of team. He is the precision who has authority of taking decision in the field. According to international law of cricket umpire not only conduct the manners in the game and taking decision about delivery laws, wicket appeals but also announces deliveries and completion of an over.

To preside over the match two infield umpires are there. The umpires are in different positions .There is one umpire who stand just behind the bowlers wicket .he is the most important umpire he decide and act as a judiciary or judge. There is another umpire standing in the side vie of batsman he is called square leg umpire .He help the main umpire in decision. If still there is any confusion in the decision or if they are not able to decide anything there is an option of third umpire .Third umpire is a technology by which they can take correct decision by replaying the difficulties.

Not only during the match but umpire plays an important role before the match also which we called pre match role before the coin toss umpires establish the hours of play .umpires decide which ball s will be used during the match .The umpires also inspect the wicket, boundary lines, crease marking and all the other rules and regulations .They also check the equipment’s of the players. Thus we can say that not only players but umpires also play an eminent role in cricket

Changing rules (By K.S.)

Changing rules of cricket everyday

From the day when cricket came to existence, there were very few rules regarding limitation of overs, size of the ground or bat sizes. With time, everything changed to make cricket more entertaining. The introduction of rules began in 18th century when three stump wickets were introduced and leg before wicket (lbw). In the beginning, the test matches were played with unlimited overs but for the first time in 1963 the English men introduced the limited overs matches. The result of such changes was historic. Limited overs cricket was productive and the number of matches increased. The first limited overs International match was played in 1971. From that day until now, ODI matches are of 50 overs.

As time is an important factor, people felt bored to watch 50 overs matches, so they introduced a limited Twenty20 game in the 21st century. This is the most popular game of cricket. According to the new rules of games, every team has 11 members who play in the match and 4 members outside the ground (extras). The team that is batting will try to score as many runs as possible in just 120 balls, while the opposite team tries to restrict them. In ODI there are 50 overs to be played by both teams and has three power plays, one of them is 10 overs and the rest of the two are of 5 overs each. Power play also restricts how many players will stand outside the 30 yard circle. In T- 20 format, the overs limit is 20 for both teams and has 1 power play of 6 overs for each team. The changes in the rules made cricket more joyful and entertaining.

Origin of Cricket

Cricket is very old sport but it played as a recognized sport since the early 18th century. The first recorded match was played in Sussex, England in 1967. It is hard to say that from where and it was exactly originated, but the country where it was originated is England, basically the area of dense woodlands and clearings in south-east England that lies across Kent and Sussex.

It is believed that, in that period, children used a stone as a ball and the batsman supposed to stop that ball to reach its target by hitting it away with a stick as a bat and the target is assumed to be tree or stool act as a wicket.  According to Heiner Gillmeister, a European language expert of Bonn University, "cricket" derives from the Middle Dutch met de (krik ket)sen (i.e., "with the stick chase"), which also suggests a Dutch connection in the game's origin.

The earliest types of bats were much like a hockey stick - long, heavy clubs curved outward toward the bottom. The design of the bat reflected the type of bowling that was prevalent at the time - fast, underarm bowls rolled along the ground. By the eighteenth century, the bat had developed into a heavier, longer, curved version of our modern bat—the handle and blade were carved out of a single piece of wood.

During the 1760s and 1770s, it became common to pitch the ball through the air rather than roll it along the ground. This innovation worked well for the bowlers rather than batsmen as they increased the seam and speed of the ball. It was also helpful for spinners because they could turn the ball and swing it in the air. On the other hand batsmen needed to be more skillful. They had to learn master shots and concentrate on timing of the shot. This was the time when curving bat was replaced with the straight one.
